The American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State

American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills & an appreciation for your rights as a citizen. As a participant in the program you, will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun summer program.

You’ll meet other students from across your state who will become friends for life.

You’ll develop confidence and leadership skills that will shape your future.

Many states offer scholarships or admission preference for attendees of Boys or Girls State.

This program is for students who will complete their junior year of high school in May or June of 2011, maintain an above average scholastic standing, and have an interest in our government process and getting involved in their communities.  Visit http://www.boysandgirlsstate.org/to view a short video about the program. 

American Legion Student Trooper Program is a great opportunity for male and female high school Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors who think they may want to pursue a career in law enforcement.  Student must  be physically fit and have the ability to be a team member.  This program is in cooperation of the American Legion Student Trooper Program and the Michigan State Police.  Program offers hand on training including; under water rescue and recovery, crash site techniques, first aid, work with proffesional canines, learn basic crime lab and forensic techniques and much more.   To apply see Mr. Giori.  

http://www.mylead.org/ - The MYLead Leadership Conference is scheduled for May 13th - 15th at Michigan State University.  Elegible students must be a sophomore in the '10-'11 school year who has positive characteristics and has demonstrated leadership potential in the school or community (for example, by excelling academically, in sports, extra-curricular activities, and/or community service).  Hale High School is able to send one student free of charge.  Nominations will be made by Hale High School Staff.  Delegates nominated to attend the 2011  conference are Lauren Brown and Danielle Benedict -  Congratulations!

4-H Exploration Days - June 22-24, 2011 at Michigan State University.  To attend the event you must be at least 11yrs. old by January 1, 2011.  Students who are not 4-H members can attend this program.  4-H Exploration Days are designed to:  1.  Help you learn new ideas, techniques and skills you can use personally and in your 4-H groups and communities.   2.  Offer in-depth action learning through sessions in your interest areas.  3.  Provide opportunites and experiences above and beyond what is available in our local area.  4.  Enhance personal growth by giving you opportunities to develop responsibility, independence, accountability, decision-making, time management and teamwork skills.
