1.  Tyler Braun:  GPA 4.0 

Parents:   Richard and Denise Braun of Hale.  Braun is actively involved in many clubs and organizations.  Braun has played football for 4 years, Cross Country for three years, Basketball for two years and Track & Field for four years.  He has been a member of the Knowledge Bowl Team for the past two years.  He has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, and also serves as a Student Council Representative.  Braun has been a member of French Club for four years, English Club for four years, and Drama Club two years.  He has been a choir member for four years.     He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.    Braun has been very involved in the Tawas Bay Player’s Teen Musicals during the past two years.  In the winter of 2009 he played the lead role in the Teen Musical “All Shook Up”.  This year Tyler also played the lead role in the musical Aida.  Braun is a member of Impact Youth Group, at the Hale United Methodist Church where he also plays keyboard in the Praise Band.  He has completed 5 mission trips during spring breaks since 2006. Braun earned Student of the Month in October 2006 and December 2007.  He received the French I Award in 2007.  In the spring of 2009 he received the Tawas Bay Area Arts Counsel Show winner for his collage.  He received the High School Music Achievement Award 2007, 2008 and 2009.  He earned the High School Art Achievement Award in 2009, as well as the Government award in 2009.  Braun’s future plans include attending Alma College where he plans to continue to pursue roles in the performing arts.  He has several areas of interest, however, he is undecided in regards to his field of study.                                    

2.  Rachel Parent:  GPA  3.89 

Parents:  Robert and Dawndul Parent of Hale.  Parent has been a member of the National Honors Society for two years.  She has been in English Club for four years and Drama Club for one year.  She has been a member of Flag Corps for one year.  Parent is been a member of Yearbook this year and is serving as the Senior Editor.  She has been a member of Choir for three years and competed at Districts Solo Ensemble for two years, she also competed at the State Solo Ensemble Festival for one year where she earned scores of “1”.  She was a member of the Prom Committee her junior year.  She was a member of the Knowledge Bowl Team this year.  Parent ran track for two years and Cross Country for thee years.  She received Academic All Conference for the North Star League last year.    She earned the student of the Month Award last year.    She earned an Academic Letter in 9th grade and a Varsity Athletic Letter in 9th grade.  Parent has volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Drives at Hale High School for the past four years.  She has participated in M-DOT Road Side Clean Up and visited residents of local nursing homes for Easter and Valentine’s Day with the National Honor Society.  She has participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Fund Raiser, sang at the Hale Senior Center with the choir and has assisted Head Start by organizing and labeling books.   Parent’s hobbies are being outside in nature, reading good books and being with her family.  Her future plans are to attend Brigham Young University in Utah and major in Exercise and Science, and become a physical therapist.

3.  Abigail Savin:  GPA  3.86 

Parents: Guy and Sandra Savin of Hale.  Savin has played the violin for 12 years and has been a member of the Flint Institute of Music for 13 yrs.  She has played in all three youth orchestras with the Flint Institute of Music and has traveled to Toronto, Chicago, Cincinnati and recently traveled to Ireland over spring break to perform with with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra.  She loves to sing and received top scores at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival during sophomore, junior and senior years.  Savin has served as President of her junior and senior classes, Student Council and English Club.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Drama Club. She has been a member of the Flags Team.  Savin and her family are members of the Hale United Methodist Church where she enjoys being part of the youth group and playing violin in the praise band.  She has been a member of 4-H the two years.  Abigail has been has taken Dual Enrollment Classes through Alpena Community College for the last two years. Savin’s Community Service activities include:  participating in the Walk to Bethlehem for the past four years; playing violin at the Senior Center for four years; participation and organization of American Red Cross Blood Drives at Hale High School; volunteering in the church nursery and can drives with the youth group during the past two years, she also served as a Vacation Bible School Teen Leader last summer.   Savin enjoys spending time in Northern Michigan boating, fishing and snowmobiling.  Her future plans include attending Alma College this fall.

4.  Leanne Lemaire Parents GPA  3.79 

Father, Keith Lemaire of Oscoda.  Mother, Penny Frost Casper of WY.  Lemaire has been a member of Flag Corps for 1 year.  She has been a member of Choir for the past four years and performed at the State Solo Ensemble Festival.  She has been a member of the National Honor Society for 2 two years.  She is currently a member of the English Club, and holds the position of Treasurer.  She has served as the Drama Club Assistant for the past year.  She is Student Council Vice-President and was a member of French Club and Yearbook.  She was a member of the Junior Prom Committee last year.    Lemaire has earned the Student of the Month Award during each of the past three years.   She has been chosen as Who’s Who of Outstanding High School Students.   She scored a “1” at Solo and Ensemble District Festival, a “1” at District Coral Festival and “2” at State Solo and Ensemble.  She has been enrolled in dual enrollment through Alpena Community College this school year.    Her community service projects include tutoring peers all four years of high school.  Leanne has been a great asset to the after school tutoring program being one of the leading student volunteers over the past two years.  She has also volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Drives at the high school for the last two years.   Lemaire’s hobbies and interests include:  listening to music, shopping, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.  Lemaire’s future plans include attending Delta College for the next two years and then transfer to a university in Florida to pursue a degree in psychology.

5.  Katy Anne Kuslick GPA 3.68

Parents: George and Cheryl Kuslick of Hale. Katy has been a member in the Band for over four years. She plays the
clarinet, tenor and alto sax. Katy went to State Solo Ensemble and was accepted into All-Star Band on the clarinet. She has also been a member of the Volunteer Jazz Band, the Knowledge Bowl Team, French Club, and English
Club. She has been in the National Honor Society for two years and participated in Student Council and homecoming court. She has been part of the P.A.V.E./W.A.V.E. Program over the past four years. Katy has participated in dual enrollment through Alpena Community College for two years, and has
enjoyed the challenge that these classes have offered. She competed at the Tawas Art Show and Competition her senior year. She has worked during high school to pay for transportation including gasoline and auto repairs.
Katy's hobbies include swimming, playing clarinet and saxophone, drawing, painting, poetry and speaking out in favor of humanity. Her favorite community services projects include volunteering with FISH and the Iosco
County Poverty Initiative Group. She has also participated in several community service projects through clubs and organizations at school. She plans to attend Austin Peay University in Tennessee where she will study law
to become an attorney and ultimately serve as a judge.

6.  Nathan Turland GPA 3.67 

Parents:  Dale and Cathy Turland of Hale.  Turland has been a member of the Cross Country and Track teams for the last four years.  He has been in the National Honors Society for the past two years.  He has been a member of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for the past three years.   He currently serves on the Student Council.  He is an active member of English Club, French Club, and Drama Club.  Turland enjoys the performing arts and has been a member of Choir for four years and participated in the teen Musical “All Shook up” in 2009.  He is an active member of the Hale United Methodist Church Youth and has served as Hale United Methodist Church Board Youth Representative.  Turland also serves as the School Board Student Representative.  He has earned Student of the Month, Eagle Award and Most Improved runner in Cross Country, a Varsity Letter, an Academic Letter and eight varsity pins.  His hobbies include running, attending church camps, participating in the Walk to Bethlehem and serving on four mission trips to Tennessee over the past four years.  Nathan’s Future plans include attending MSU this fall, however, he is undecided in regards to his field of study. 

7.  Brandi R. Curley GPA 3.51

Parents:  Brian and Lori Curley of Long Lake.  Curley participated in volleyball during her freshmen year.  She was a member of French Club during her sophomore year.  She has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years and currently holds the office of secretary. Curley has been attending the Bay Arenac Career Center for the past two years.  Students attending the career center leave Hale High School at 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and return in time for lunch and afternoon classes.  She has really enjoyed her classes through Bay Arenac and was able to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) state license in July of last year.  This year she has attended the Health Technology Program and has completed placements at Bay Regional Medical Center in the Cardiac Unit and at Brian’s House.   Curley has been a member of Health Occupations Student of America (HOSA) for the past two years.   Last year she won gold medals at both the regional and state level competition.  She again won a gold medal at the regional level this year.   In June of last year she traveled to Nashville Tennessee where she competed.  She did a great job in representing the Bay Arenac Career Center and Hale High School.  Curley earned the Student Success and Academic Achievement Letter last year.  Curley has volunteered for Michigan Blood Banks Blood Drives for the past two years.  She also volunteered with the Food Pantry making Thanksgiving Baskets the last two years.  This year she participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser.  Last year she participated in the Hospice of Helping Hands Fundraiser and visited with residents at the Tawas Village Easter during an Easter Party with the National Honor Society.  Curley’s future plans include attending Saginaw Valley State University and pursuing a career in the medical field. 

8.  Chelsea Niederquell GPA  3.48

Parents:  Allen and Lisa Niederquell of Oscoda.  Niederquell has played basketball the last four years and was the team captain this past season. She earned the Eagle Award in Basketball this year.  She also played volleyball for one year.  Niederquell has been a member of Flag Corps for the past year.  She has been a member of band and choir for the past four years and has competed in the State Solo Ensemble Festival in both areas.  She is a member of the Student Council and has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past year.  Niederquell is a member of the Young Educator’s Society (YES CLUB).  She has volunteered at the Hale Elementary and Middle School during this past school year.  Niederquell’s hobbies include playing basketball, instrumental music, vocal music, performing in the Veteran’s Day Service and the Memorial Day Parade.  She enjoys swimming, listening to music, writing stories, working with children, reading and hanging out with friends.  Future plans include attending Delta College then transferring to Saginaw Valley State University to become a middle school English teacher.  She also has an interest in the area of medical billing. 

9  Destiny Beesley  GPA  3.44

Mother Marcia Lynn Beesley of Hale.   Beesley has been attending the Bay Arenac Career Center this year and is studying Forensic Science.  Students attending the career center leave Hale High School at 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and return in time for lunch and afternoon classes.  Destiny is a member of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) through the Career Center.  She has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past year.  She is also a member of the Drama Club.  Future plans include attending Saginaw Valley State University this fall to major in Biology.  She then she plans on attending Michigan State University to study Forensic Science. 

10.  Benjamin Edward Stoll  GPA 3.44 

 Parents:  Dallas and Denise Stoll, of Hale and the late Julie Buxton.  Stoll played football all four years of high school.  This year he was the team captain and was chosen as the team’s MVP Defensive Player and was named to the North Star League All Conference Football Team.  He has played basketball for the past two years.  He played baseball his freshman year and wrestled his sophomore year.  Stoll served on Student Council during his sophomore year.   He has played in the band for two years and has performed in the Marching and Pep Bands.  He is currently a member of the Young Educator’s Society (YES Club). He is a member of the Hale Baptist Church Youth Group.   Stoll is employed at the Forward’s Shell Station/Subway in Hale.  He enjoys playing sports, listening to music, watching movies, hanging out with friends and playing video games.   His future plans include attending Adrian College where he will play football and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Education majoring in Physical Education.
